I was very sorry to read Supervisor Michela Alioto-Pier, who uses a wheelchair, dropped out of her race for state insurance commissioner because of an injury that still has her in the hospital. Shame on the idiot, anonymous posters confirming her misfortune is a good thing for California politics.
I directed technology for Michela’s 1998 Secretary of State campaign in which we were the first in state history to post all campaign contributions online in queryable form. We lost the statewide election by ~100k votes but I got to know and respect a very good person.
Another gift from the campaign was my first up close view of another very good person, Vice President Gore.
