Is the proper path of life to work hard, make lots of money to save for our children’s future, have an on-going lifestyle that reflects doing well, (regardless) and after we’ve expended our youth in the walls of work we should have big funds for retirement? But is it more like we grow up, get a job, find someone to marry, have kids, get divorced, split the assets, I’m making Ok money, wait how am I suddenly low on dough, now what? It’s all in mental conditioning!
While raising my Son it occurred to me instead of Sex Education, or at least in conjunction with, a class should be at every school on the subject of “How to be in a Relationship”. Pave the road to good mental health at an early age. Each of us would evaluate our individuality, focus on what we like to do, what’s important, develop our self knowledge of ‘This is me ‘and respect that so much that we respect that in others, all starting in Kindergarten. By the time we graduate from high school we would be experts at making ‘Compromise’ an Art like Yoga and as important as Math and Reading! Can you imagine if we were taught to look into and work on our individuality before looking out at others, we would all be so busy working on ourselves we wouldn’t have time to tell anyone what they should do!
BAUTISTA played our first Acoustic Show at Wildfox in Novato last Thursday evening. Although it was cold they had the outdoor heaters full on. Some said our sound was soothing, calming while another, who said he came to Vaquero in Sonoma just to see us play many times, wanted to see our Electric Show. Can we please every one? As a two piece Percussion Section Paul Sonnabend came up with very nice driven Conga Beats and Mark Briseno always adding elegance to our sound while our two piece Rythym Section was extra smooth with Jeff Young and his well placed Bass lines and yours truly playing my Ovation Acoustic Guitar.
Then last Friday evening BAUTISTA played our first show at Silo’s Wine and Music Bar in downtown Napa. This is a club that focuses on music with high ceilings, black curtain back drop, couches, sofa chairs and tables and chairs that have a great view of the musicians playing with excellent wine selection and nicely cooked appetizers. At Silo’s we went with a full three piece Percussion Section of Set Drummer Eric Engstrom, Paul Sonnabend on Congas, and Mark Briseno on Hand Percussions/Timbales and Mark Purvis on Smooth Bass lines, David Dykstra on Rythym/Lead Keyboards and The Norm on my Gibson Guitars and the evening was a pure delight.
Next up BAUTISTA is at Servino this next Saturday, November 28. Will you be out buying presents for loved ones or yourself? Take that Tiburon exit and I’m sure the view of The City will be spectacular and the Percussive Vibes when you come in and hear our Latin Jazz Fusion Dance Music will enhance your good mental health!
See you soon!
