Bautista and the Mechanics of Life

Posted on 24 November 2009 by Robert James

Is the proper path of life to work hard, make lots of money to save for our children’s future, have an on-going lifestyle that reflects doing well, (regardless) and after we’ve expended our youth in the walls of work we should have big funds for retirement? But is it more like we grow up, get a job, find someone to marry, have kids, get divorced, split the assets, I’m making Ok money, wait how am I suddenly low on dough, now what? It’s all in mental conditioning!

While raising my Son it occurred to me instead of Sex Education, or at least in conjunction with, a class should be at every school on the subject of “How to be in a Relationship”. Pave the road to good mental health at an early age. Each of us would evaluate our individuality, focus on what we like to do, what’s important, develop our self knowledge of ‘This is me ‘and respect that so much that we respect that in others, all starting in Kindergarten. By the time we graduate from high school we would be experts at making ‘Compromise’ an Art like Yoga and as important as Math and Reading! Can you imagine if we were taught to look into and work on our individuality before looking out at others, we would all be so busy working on ourselves we wouldn’t have time to tell anyone what they should do!
BAUTISTA played our first Acoustic Show at Wildfox in Novato last Thursday evening. Although it was cold they had the outdoor heaters full on. Some said our sound was soothing, calming while another, who said he came to Vaquero in Sonoma just to see us play many times, wanted to see our Electric Show. Can we please every one? As a two piece Percussion Section Paul Sonnabend came up with very nice driven Conga Beats and Mark Briseno always adding elegance to our sound while our two piece Rythym Section was extra smooth with Jeff Young and his well placed Bass lines and yours truly playing my Ovation Acoustic Guitar.
Then last Friday evening BAUTISTA played our first show at Silo’s Wine and Music Bar in downtown Napa. This is a club that focuses on music with high ceilings, black curtain back drop, couches, sofa chairs and tables and chairs that have a great view of the musicians playing with excellent wine selection and nicely cooked appetizers. At Silo’s we went with a full three piece Percussion Section of Set Drummer Eric Engstrom, Paul Sonnabend on Congas, and Mark Briseno on Hand Percussions/Timbales and Mark Purvis on Smooth Bass lines, David Dykstra on Rythym/Lead Keyboards and The Norm on my Gibson Guitars and the evening was a pure delight.

Next up BAUTISTA is at Servino this next Saturday, November 28. Will you be out buying presents for loved ones or yourself? Take that Tiburon exit and I’m sure the view of The City will be spectacular and the Percussive Vibes when you come in and hear our Latin Jazz Fusion Dance Music will enhance your good mental health!
See you soon!

Bautista and the World Today

Posted on 12 November 2009 by Robert James

In my spunky early 20′s I thought the world would evolve into true commonwealth of sharing where every person would be guaranteed a warm well lit comfortable place to live and food to eat everyday as the basics of rights of life. It would not be a privilege but a human right. Of course we would all have jobs but everyone would be trained starting the first day of school to learn to put in a certain amount of hours everyday from a variety of things we all have the ability to do to contribute to our Basic Rights of Life! Kids in school would take care of the elderly, entertain them and importantly learn to respect them, energetic people would utilize all those exercise machines that could be Power Generators. People who can’t sit at desks can sweep the streets or change burned out lights on street lamps or plant seeds and grow vegetables for people in other parts of the state, country or the world. There could be so many things we could do with our human energy we already put out that is wasted by today’s ways of life. When we get older and our kids have grown into good solid productive adults you get upgraded to a nice car and an even nicer place to live for the rest of your life. We could make our world focused on everyone being comfortable rather than the corrupt all for me and none for you system we have now.

Do we have enough to complain about with the way the world is today? Oh heck yes! But all the negativity sure makes us not appreciate the fact that we are in the future. Cars are parking themselves now? Auto-pilot driving can’t be that far away. The Internet is incredible. Western, Eastern, all of Medicine is becoming so advanced. It’s predicted people will be living to be well over 100 years old and active as in their youth which is already in scientists sights. And good music will be easily heard once again!
But for now you’ll have to pay over priced places to live, over priced groceries, outrageous healthcare costs and physically go out, search and find a good band playing great music. So where do you go for some great music? Next week BAUTISTA will break down into a smaller group of four at the Wildfox Bar in Novato on Friday Eve: Thursday, November 19 starting at 7:00. This will be more of an acoustic setting but our energy will be driven as usual. And if Thursday won’t work for you how would an evening of BAUTISTA as full band, full force at Silo’s Wine & Music Club in Napa sound? There we start at 8:30. This is an awesome club with a setting similar to Yoshi’s and Napa is a great town!

So grow older gracefully and be with BAUTISTA share our energy and show future generations how to live it up!

See you soon!
The Norm
