Who Needs Sleep?

Tiburon Film Society will present Who Needs Sleep? at the Bay Model located at 2100 Bridgeway in Sausalito on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 @ 6 PM.

Running Time:  78 minutes
Country:  USA
Genre:  Documentary
Cast:  Annette Bening, Billy Crystal, David B. Agus, Netta Bank, Gilbert Cates, Nick Counter, Tyne Daly, Andrew Davis
Director:  Haskel Wexler

Film crews routinely work sweatshop hours, often clocking 15 to 18 hour days at the expense of their families, their health, their well-being, and even their lives.

In 1997, after a 19-hour day on the set, assistant cameraman Brent Hershman fell asleep behind the wheel, crashed his car, and died. Deeply disturbed by Hershman’s preventable death, filmmaker and multiple-Oscar-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler shows how sleep deprivation and long work hours are a lethal combination.

Who Needs Sleep? is a commentary on our quality of life.

Admission: FREE and open to the public!

Tiburon CA – Tiburon Film Society Presents: Virtual JFK, July 6

Posted on 25 June 2010 by Robert James

Virtual JFK: Vietnam If Kennedy Had Lived

The Tiburon Film Society will present the following film at the Bay Model located at 2100 Bridgeway in Sausalito on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 @ 6 PM.

Running Time: 80 minutes
Country: US
Genre: Documentary
Cast: John F. Kennedy, James G. Blight
Director: Koji Masutani

At the heart of VIRTUAL JFK is the critical question: Does it matter who is President of the United States when it comes to issues of war and peace? It explores this question by investigating one of the most debated “what if” scenarios in the history of U.S. foreign policy: What would President John F. Kennedy have done in Vietnam if he had not been assassinated in 1963, and had he been re-elected in 1964?

The film employs what Harvard historian Niall Ferguson calls “virtual history,” assessing the plausibility of counterfactuals – “what ifs” – and the outcomes they might have produced.

Festivals:

- HotDocs
– Mexico International Film Festival, Winner of the Golden Palm Award
– Fort Lauderdale Film Festival
– London Independent Documentary Film Festival

Cost: FREE and is open to the public!
