Description: [Screening at the Tiburton Film Society]
One of the great challenges we face in exploring the oceans is to get close to marine life without disturbing it. Enter free diver Frederic Buyle, whose noiseless diving lets him approach even shy animals.
Buyle, who can descend 50 meters on a single breath and stay there for up to four minutes, teams up with underwater cameraman Christian Petron (The Big Blue).
Whether in Polynesia, Mexico or the Mediterranean, they work closely with scientists and locals to find answers to the mysteries of our oceans.
Tiburon Film Society will present “Who Needs Sleep?“ at the Bay Model located at 2100 Bridgeway in Sausalito on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 @ 6 PM.
Running Time: 78 minutes Country: USA Genre: Documentary Cast: Annette Bening, Billy Crystal, David B. Agus, Netta Bank, Gilbert Cates, Nick Counter, Tyne Daly, Andrew Davis Director: Haskel Wexler
Film crews routinely work sweatshop hours, often clocking 15 to 18 hour days at the expense of their families, their health, their well-being, and even their lives.
In 1997, after a 19-hour day on the set, assistant cameraman Brent Hershman fell asleep behind the wheel, crashed his car, and died. Deeply disturbed by Hershman’s preventable death, filmmaker and multiple-Oscar-winning cinematographer Haskell Wexler shows how sleep deprivation and long work hours are a lethal combination.
Who Needs Sleep? is a commentary on our quality of life.

Tiburon Film Society will present “Sergio Leone: The Way I See Things“ at the Bay Model located at 2100 Bridgeway in Sausalito on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 @ 6 PM.
Running Time: 62 minutes
Country: Italy Language: Italian with English Subtitles Genre: Documentary Cast: Claudia Cardinale, Ennio Morricone, Eli Wallach, Tonino Delli Colli, Christopher Frayling, Tonino Valerii, Luciano Vincenzoni Director: Giulo Reale
Western towns controlled by outlaws. Cigar-chewing heroes in looming close-ups. Operatic showdowns. Throbbing music. Movie buffs know the trademark elements of the great Italian filmmaker, Sergio Leone, by heart, but the engaging documentary Sergio Leone: The Way I See Things will surely give even the most ardent fan new insights into this unique master.
The maestro behind such genre epics as A Fistful of Dollars, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West, Leone (1929-1989) was a superb stylist who took the American Westerns he loved as a kid and transformed them into visual arias all of his own, in the process influencing such directors as Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. Just as fascinating as his films, Leone’s larger-than-life personality is profiled here in an illuminating journey, rich in both anecdotes and gorgeous clips from his movies.
By examining Leone’s superb use of image, sound and the frame, the film reveals the magic and the rough beauty of his arid vistas and outsized characters. Actors Eli Wallach and Claudia Cardinale, directors Giuliano Montaldo and Vittorio Giacci and historian Christopher Frayling, among others, offer invaluable contributions to Giulio Reale’s exhilarating Sergio Leone: The Way I See I Things, a mesmerizing portrait that makes us look at an old master with fresh eyes.
