Our Maestro, Artistic director, Robert Ashens, has set up a fantastic line up of an array of artists:
Soprano Jillian Boye, Baritone Sascha Joggert, Mezzo Soprano Sally Mouzon, and Boy Soprano Ryan Nelson.
Jillian Boye, Soprano
A San Francisco Bay Area native, soprano Jillian Boye can currently be heard as Musetta in Opera San José’s production of La bohème. Past credits include Adele (Die Fledermaus), Yum-Yum (The Mikado), Lola (Cavalleria Rusticana), Pousette (Manon), Frasquita (Carmen), Giannetta (L’Elisir d’Amore), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Eurydice (Orpheus in the Underworld), Sophie (Werther), Dorine (Tartuffe), Despina (Così fan tutte), Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), Mary Warren (The Crucible), and Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro). An active concert soloist, Ms. Boye’s appearances include Carmina Burana, Serenade to Music, Misa Criolla, Exsulatate, jubilate, The Messiah, Gloria (Rutter), and the world premieres of Out of Africa andSongs of my Aims.
Ms. Boye received the Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2008. The Young Artist Award from the Holt Competition and the grand prize in the San Jose Opera Guild Competition also number among her commendations. Ms. Boye holds a Bachelor of Music degree from San José State University.
Sascha Joggert
A charismatic and versitile performer, German lyric baritone Sascha Joggerst has performed with companies in Germany, England and the US and established himself quickly as a sought after artist. Aside from numerous recitals and concerts Mr Joggerts most recent operatic credits include the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro and Frank in Die Fledermans with Livermore Valley Opera, Schaunard in La Boheme as well as Morales and Le Dancaire in Rizets Carmen at the Mendicino Music Festival, Le Dancaire (Carmen) and Perichaud in Puccini’s Le Randiae with Opera San Jose, Baron Duophol in Verdi’s La Traviata with West Bay Opera, Escamillo in Carmen with San Francisco Pocket Opera Yamadori in Madame Butterfly with West Bay Opera and his WBO debut as Silvio in Pagliacci and Guglielmo in Cost fan Tutte.
He was also seen as Silvio and King Melchior with Townshed Opera Players, Tiger Brown with Santa Cruz Chamber Orchestra and Figaro as guest artist with Bay Area Summer Opera Theater Institute, following his US debut as Count Almaviva. Mr Joggert is a regular guest artist for several companies.
Sally Mouzon, Mezzo-soprano
A native of Virginia, mezzo-soprano Sally Mouzon joined the San Francisco Opera Regular Chorus in 1998. She made her solo debut that year as a Fisherwoman in Peter Grimes. Since then, she has appeared in numerous other solo roles with the Company, including the Second Priestess in Iphigénie en Tauride, Marguerite and a Coal Gatherer in Louise, Second Noble Orphan in Der Rosenkavalier, Second Bridesmaid in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Sister Lillianne in the world premiere of Dead Man Walking.
Regional solo roles include Dorabella with West Bay Opera, Siebel in Faust with Sacramento Opera, Little Buttercup in H.M.S. Pinafore with Eugene Opera, Charlotte in Werther with San Francisco Lyric Opera, and Adalgisa in Davis as well as with San Francisco Lyric Opera. She created the role of Mrs. Carroll in Robert Arnold Hall’s Mrs. Carroll’s Alice.
Ms. Mouzon has an abiding love for operetta, which she has performed extensively. These roles include Marie Blanche in Messager’s Les P’tites Michu, Prince Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus, Jill All-Alone in Merrie England, and many Gilbert and Sullivan roles including Phoebe in Yeomen of the GuardRuddigore. Oratorio and concert credits include Copland’s Twelve Poems of Emily Dickinson, Handel’s Messiah, Mahler’s 8th Symphony, the Requiems of Mozart and Duruflé, and Bach’s Mass in B Minor and St. Matthew Passion. Her solo recital of French mélodies by Poulenc, Roussel, and Fauré was heard at the French Embassy in Washington.
Ms. Mouzon graduated from the University of Virginia (where she met her husband!) with a degree in Russian Language and American History. She is an avid baseball fan; other interests include teaching preschool and elementary kids about opera, learning about paleontology with her daughter, and making jewelry.
