Overall, the companies in the study recognized total benefits of over $6 million from an investment of $2.9 million over three years in the OAAM platform. IDC accounts for the opportunity costs realized by not having invested the initial amount in some other instrument yielding a 12% return. This results in a net present value (NPV) for the three-year benefits of $3.1 million (see Table 2). Based on the total benefits, the payback period from deploying OAAM averaged 12.1 months for the companies surveyed, yielding an average return on investment of 106%.

One Success Leads to Another at Koze

One Success Leads to Another at Koze

Posted on 26 November 2010 by tibtv

By DIANE SMITH at The Ark Newspaper

Although many businesses are struggling these days, Darla Fisher has one of the few stores in Marin that has expanded. Fisher, the owner of Koze, a women’s clothing store on Main Street, attributes the shop’s continuing success to her loyal, local customers. “That’s the secret to my success,” she said. “Hands down.

“I’ve found that the majority of women prefer clothes that are comfortable, so I’ve expanded my niche to include comfortable clothes,” she said. In addition, the same tourists return time after time during vacations, coming to Tiburon for the shopping.

It all began when Darla and her husband, Jon, were looking for a house to buy in Mill Valley. They made a wrong turn and ended up in Tiburon one evening during Friday Night on Main. While they were enjoying dinner at a table in the street, Darla noticed a “Vacancy” sign on a nearby window, became intrigued with the possibilities, and the pair decided to settle in Tiburon. She opened Koze five years ago and has never looked back.

“When I first opened, I wanted to hear honest feedback,” said Fisher. “The smartest thing I ever did was sit outside the front door and listen to what people said as they emerged.” She heard such comments as, “I would have bought that dress if it had been in blue,” or “I loved that jacket, but the price was a little too high.” She also asked locals for their opinions on brands, prices and what they were looking for. “You have to listen to your customers,” she said.

Because of the great response to Koze, Fisher opened a second, adjacent shop one year ago, when The Hat Generation closed and the space became available. Koze Beginnings carries clothes and accessories for infants in sizes up to toddler 3. Because of requests, she plans to offer maternity clothes starting this month. “Our pricing philosophy (for the new shop) is the same as Koze, not out of line,” said Fisher. She also goes out of her way to carry merchandise made in the United States.

Fisher gives credit for helping to make the shop successful to her staff of three, Paula Figone, Jessica Kunen and Elisa Reitsch, who have been with her for several years.

Fisher spends a lot of time decorating her windows in order to jazz up Main Street. “I love seeing people stop and look at our displays,” she said. “It’s a badge of honor seeing nose prints on the window.”
This year, Darla and Jon Fisher are celebrating two events: The first was the birth of their daughter, Avery Emerson, in January. The second is the first anniversary of Koze Beginnings.

Koze is at 16 Main Street, and Koze Beginnings is at 18 Main Street. Both are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. For more information, go to www.getkoze.com or call 435-1916.

Why does Oracle or HP care about New York Times?

Why does Oracle or HP care about New York Times?

Posted on 14 October 2010 by tibtv

Most stock trading of Oracle and HP is completed by computers with no knowledge of anything printed in the New York Times. Most applicable customers and partners have little to no choice but to do business with Oracle and HP. Anyone at an impressionable age receives New York Times content filtered by blog editorials and/or web 2.0 applications that is about as informative as not reading at all.

Retraction law in California

Retraction law in California

Posted on 14 October 2010 by tibtv

California has a retraction statute, Cal. Civ. Code § 48a, that applies to the “publication of libel in a newspaper” or “slander by radio broadcast.” Although the statute does not specifically state whether it covers online publications, two recent court decisions suggest that an online publisher may be covered by the statute if the publisher’s main focus is the rapid dissemination of news.

Danny Sullivan, “Search Engine Land”

Posted on 11 October 2010 by tibtv

Danny Sullivan is editor-in-chief of “Search Engine Land” that is 1 of ~100 blogs, feeds, who knows that we hit this weekend to make sure my name was detached from the latest facebook privacy debacle in which a facebook user “Jon Fisher” was causing trouble. I’m not a facebook, Twitter, web 2.0 user for this reason as well as the reason that the entire category is the biggest waste of time in the history of the world. Sullivan disagrees. He executed more than 17,000 “tweets” in his career that adds up to 10 tweets per day, every day, for the 4 years since Twitter was founded. Twitter didn’t really launch out of private beta until 2007 so my guess is Sullivan averaged at least 17 tweets per day. One of his latest blasted me here.

My letter to counsel regarding Facebook security breach

Posted on 11 October 2010 by tibtv

This is a snip from my letter this evening to counsel regarding Facebook’s security breach. For the record, I’m not a member of Facebook.

“You read about Zuckerberg CEO, Facebook being placed in a “xxxxxxxx” (xxxxx) Facebook group and a “Jon Fisher” accused of doing it apparently by another Facebook member who was also hijacked. PCWorld did a piece apparently illuminating the Jon Fisher responsible however query Jon Fisher in Google and my Wikipedia page is the first listing followed by my blog. Some reporters are extrapolating “It was set up by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Jon Fisher” that is the way I’m almost always identified in the press. Additionally, my name is now appended to hundreds of stories including this unsavoriness.

It looks like Switched.com(AOL) or PC World originated:

Facebook’s Overhauled Groups Ripe for Abuse …
Silicon Valley entrepreneur Jon Fisher to highlight a glaring issue …
source: PC World www.switched.com/2010/10/08/facebooks-overhauled-groups…

We need to approach Facebook immediately with a variety of issues including…”

Watch for a “stunning” report this morning before the election. Unemployment is on its way down, fast. That doesn’t mean the market holds. Cloud bust will increase and ripple (billow?)
